Connection rules
- ＋V plain (non-past or past) + とき(に); i-adj + とき(に); na-adj + な + とき(に); noun + の + とき(に).
- ＋Non-past V + とき: action happens at the time of / as X begins.
- ＋Past V + とき: action happens after X has occurred / during an ongoing X.
Examples

子供のとき、よく公園で遊びました。
Kodomo no toki, yoku kouen de asobi mashi ta.
When I was a child, I often played in the park.
