Connection rules
- ＋Same verb stem as ます, then + ませんでした instead of ます
- ＋Form by replacing ます with ませんでした: 食べます → 食べませんでした, 行きます → 行きませんでした.
- ＋For い-adjective past negative, use くなかったです (e.g., 高くなかったです), not ませんでした. The ませんでした form is only for verbs.
