Connection rules

＋i-adjective (dictionary form or conjugated form) + です. Past: 〜かったです. Negative: 〜くないです or 〜くありません.
＋です after i-adj is a politeness marker, NOT a copula — it does not conjugate for tense or negation.
＋Past: 高かったです (NOT 高いでした).

この本ほんは高たかいです。
