(Desu)

polite ending for i-adjective predicates.

Connection rules

  • i-adjective (dictionary form or conjugated form) + です. Past: 〜かったです. Negative: 〜くないです or 〜くありません.
  • です after i-adj is a politeness marker, NOT a copula — it does not conjugate for tense or negation.
  • Past: 高かったです (NOT 高いでした).
