Connection rules

  • Sino-Japanese number + 人 (にん). Exceptions: 一人 = ひとり, 二人 = ふたり, 四人 = よにん.
  • 一人 and 二人 use native numbers: ひとり, ふたり.
  • 四人 is よにん, not しにん (しにん = 死人 'dead person').
