(Ba yoka ta)

Expresses regret that something was not done, or was done, in the past.

Connection rules

  • Verb (Conditional ば-form) + よかった
  • Verb (Negative なければ) + よかった

Examples

鈴木すずきくん参加さんかすればよかったのに。

Suzuki kun mo sanka sure ba yoka ta noni.

It would have been good if Suzuki had participated too.

Regretting a friend's absence

2.
あんなにたくさんべなければよかった。

Annani takusan tabe nakere ba yoka ta.

I wish I hadn't eaten that much.
