(Te mo shikata ga nai)

Expresses that a certain action or state is useless or cannot be helped.

Connection rules

  • Verb (te-form) + もしかたがない
  • I-Adjective (drop い, add くて) + もしかたがない
  • Na-Adjective/Noun + で + もしかたがない

Examples

1.
わったことを今更いまさら後悔こうかいしてもしかたがない。

Owa ta koto wo imasara koukai shi te mo shikata ga nai.

It is no use regretting what is already over now.

Moving on from mistakes

2.
そんなに文句もんくってもしかたがないよ。

Sonnani monku wo i te mo shikata ga nai yo.

There is no point in complaining like that.
