Connection rules

  • V-て + はいられない (polite: いられません). Casual contraction: 〜ちゃいられない.
  • Urgency / pressing concern — the speaker can't stay inactive.
  • Casual contraction: 〜ちゃいられない (食べてはいられない → 食べちゃいられない).
