くもない

(Naku mo nai)

not that I don't / it's not that X isn't.

Connection rules

  • V ない-form + (く)もない; i-adj 〜くない + くもない; na-adj + でなくもない.
  • Double negative — softens a positive claim.
  • Similar to 〜ないことはない (N3); 〜なくもない is slightly more conversational.

Examples

1.
たくなくない時間じかんない

Iki taku naku mo nai ga, jikan ga nai.

It's not that I don't want to go, but I don't have time.

not that I don't / it's not that X isn't

2.
かれ意見いけんわからなくない

Kare no iken mo wakara naku mo nai.

I can sort of see his point.
