Connection rules
- ＋Godan / Ichidan V dict + まい (or 〜ます stem + まい for ichidan, varied). Irregular: する → すまい / しまい; くる → くまい / こまい.
- ＋Literary / archaic negative volitional — equivalent of modern ないだろう / ない.
- ＋Two senses: negative prediction ('won't') and negative intention ('will not').
Examples
1.
もう二度と彼とは会うまい。
Mou nidoto kare to wa au mai.
I'll never see him again.

2.
そんな簡単には負けるまい。
Sonna kantan ni wa makeru mai.
I won't lose so easily.
