(Beku)

in order to / for the purpose of (literary).

Connection rules

  • V dict-form + べく. Irregular: する → すべく (formal) or するべく.
  • Literary / formal purpose marker — replaces ために in formal writing.
  • The する form is usually すべく (literary contraction) rather than するべく.
