out of excess / from too much.
Connection rules
- ＋V plain + あまり; i-adj + さ + の + あまり; na-adj + な + あまり / noun (emotion) + の + あまり.
- ＋Expresses an excess of emotion / sensation leading to an unusual result.
- ＋Common with nominalized emotions: 驚きのあまり, 嬉しさのあまり, 悲しみのあまり.
Examples
1.
驚きのあまり、言葉を失った。
Odoroki no amari, kotoba o ushina ta.
Out of sheer surprise, I was lost for words.
