べくして
(Beku shi te)
inevitably / as one would expect / destined to.
Connection rules
- ＋V dict-form + べくして + (usually the same verb in past). Common pattern: 〜べくして + 〜た.
- ＋Literary inevitability — 'as fate would have it'.
- ＋Often with same verb repeated: 起こるべくして起こる, 勝つべくして勝つ.
